Movie Nights
Once a week have a movie night! Tuesdays are always great because the new releases are out that day. Go to the rental place together and pick out two movies. One idea to try is to theme your weeks! Try incorporating a meal that relates to the theme of your movie. Alternate picking your favorites each week with your partner.

Movie by Moonlight
On one of my boyfriend and I’s first dates together I wanted to do something extraordinary for him and something outside of the box. So I packed us up a picnic basket with some chocolate covered strawberries, cheese and crackers and a bottle of wine. We headed over to the local beach and we had a picnic by the moonlight. For my final surprise I brought my laptop along for a little movie by the moonlight.

Movies On The Beach
My girlfriend expected a quiet night at the movies, but when we got to the beach, she couldn’t understand why we were there. I told her we’re going to watch a movie. I picked up a romantic DVD, a huge beach blanket, two pillows and brought my laptop with a DVD player in it. It was so romantic watching the sunset on the beach with the sounds of seagulls and ocean waves in the background as we lay there watching a movie on the beach. Make sure your battery in the laptop lasts longer than the length of the movie!

Night on the Docks
My girlfriend and I are both students, needless to say we do not have a lot of money to throw around. I work at a local lake tackle shop, where there is a large number of boat slips. So I took her out for dinner at her all time favorite place, then I asked her if she wanted to walk the docks at the lake (it was beautiful, the stars and moon were just magnificent). She agreed to go to the lake, but what she didn’t know is that I had a friend set up a blanket and 50 candles on the last dock overlooking the lake with the moon shinning over us. She was so surprised. We sat and talked for a couple of hours. It was great and I spent less than $25.

Not Ready To Go Home
My boyfriend and I are both college students so money is pretty tight. After going to the movies one night, he said that he didn’t want to take me home. Instead, he took me to the football field. We sat in the stands looking at the stars and just talking. It was simple but it was one of the best nights of my life.

Out On The Balcony
My husband and I just became parents and money can be a little tight. When we need to get away, we just go out on the balcony of our apartment. We take a couple of old comforters and something to drink and enjoy each other. It feels like we are far away from our normal world but we are still within reach of our baby. It doesn’t cost anything and we always have a nice time. Sometimes a REALLY nice time.

Paint Your Own Plate
My boyfriend and I were lacking a little spark. So, I decided to spice things up a little bit. One night when he got off of work, I made him a meal, but not just an ordinary meal. I made him not only the food, but the plate too. I went to one of those “Paint your Own Pottery” places. I made him a plate that had I Love You written on it. I fixed his meal and put it on the plate with candles and wine. When he finished his favorite meal and his plate was clean, he finally noticed what his plate said. It was hard to keep a straight face the whole dinner and it was fun to see him realize his surprise. It was two things at once; a dinner and a gift.

Park Hopping
We’re both students and work at least one job, so there’s maybe one day a week that we’re able to get together and not much money to go around. My idea consisted of juice boxes, trail mix (Chinese crackers, M&M;’s, and gummy bears), and a lame questionnaire. We went to the first park and played (yes, we’re both in our twenties) on the swings (a wooded area is best), then we moved out into the sun and sat on a bench in a different park, just talking. The day continued on like that at different parks, until we decided to go home. This was our first “outing”, and it lasted thirteen hours! I’d printed the questionnaire out earlier with stupid and silly questions, and found out he’d actually answered and kept it. The last thing he wrote on it was: “…how much fun we had, and when can we do this again?” It’s important to remember that they want you to learn about them, and talking is a surefire, inexpensive, romantic way.

Personal Drive-In Movie
My boyfriend has a TV and DVD player in his car and sometimes just for fun he will rent a new DVD, pick up chinese food and we will go park somewhere and watch a movie, while eating and snuggling together in the car. It is fun, you get to pick the spot, and you don’t have to dress up!

Personalized Pillow
Whenever it comes time to get my boyfriend a present, I try to do something creative. For Valentine’s Day I made him a pillow… I put together a few pictures of us making a rectangular shape about 15″ by 10″, and around the pictures I made a border out of different fabrics and patterned papers. I then glued everything to a poster board and cut it to size. This worked out to be my dummy art copy to take for copying. I bought a large white cotton tee shirt and took everything to Kinko’s where I got my design printed on the shirt. When I got the shirt back a few days later, I cut out my pattern and another piece of the shirt from the other side the exact same size. I sewed it and stuffed it and presented it to him a few days later. He loved it! He even keeps it on his bed.
