Theater Proposal
My perfect proposal idea is rather simple yet romantic. He takes me to see a movie we both have been waiting to watch; we arrive late (according to his plan of course) and by the time we arrive in the theater the lights are out and the previews are getting ready to start. The theater is a little full so we sit in the seats down near the front row. The previews begin and the screen lights up with pictures of me, toddler, teenager, and now… then the screen reads, “Will you marry me?” After getting over the initial shock I look around to discover many of my family members, friends, and others all gathered to view the beautiful moment!

Under the Moonlight
The day I was proposed to was one of the happiest days of my life. After spending the day together watching a movie, my boyfriend took me blindfolded into the bedroom. When I opened my eyes there was the whole room lit with candles. He began to kiss me and well you can imagine the rest. He asked me if I loved him, I responded with all my heart. He then took me at that moment to the beach. It was a chilly April evening. There on a rock, over looking the ocean and under the moonlight, he got down on one knee. He read me a poem he had made. The last line of the poem asked me to marry him. He pulled out a ring and there was the most beautiful ring I’d ever seen. It brings a smile to my face every time I remember that evening. He definitely saved the best for last.

Unexpected Proposal
After my husband and I had been dating for just a few short months, he took me to a beautiful 5 star restaurant with a glass wall overlooking the city. On that particular evening, there were fireworks planned unbeknownst to the two of us. The whole night was perfection, right down to the wine, the flowers and a romantic river cruise that featured a terrific band. After watching the fireworks while standing alone at the shore of the water, my husband presented me with a beautiful diamond anniversary band, which he claimed was a symbol of his love and commitment to me. Being so new in this relationship (and incredibly young), neither of us had ever uttered the word marriage and while he didn’t propose, he told me that he wanted to give me a symbol of his commitment to our future. About two weeks later, we were running errands together and I was running around in a grubby old sweat suit, a ponytail and sans makeup. When he asked me if I wanted to pick anything else up, I replied I wanted to pick up some lotion.

Looking crestfallen, he asked me if I was really sure, because he was thinking more along the lines of picking up an engagement ring! After picking my jaw up off the floor, he took me to a nearby jeweler, where he had already picked out a ring to compliment the one he had just given me. After getting my final approval on the ring and a resounding yes, he replied that he knew I was the one about two weeks after dating, and he wanted a big surprise, so he used a decoy ring! He figured that if I didn’t get an engagement ring on that perfect evening then I would be even more surprised when it came so shortly after.

Never thinking that I would be proposed to when looking my worst, he reminded me that love was not about perfection, but about in the everyday moments. That was about 7 years ago; we have since had a daughter and are making room for a new baby boy and I’ve come to realize that you know what? That silly, offhand proposal is so like the man I married, thoughtful, sweet, unexpected and a little strange, but perfect for me.

Vacation of a Lifetime
My boyfriend and I had been dating for about 3 years, and he finally gave into my idea of going on vacation together. He said one of his close friends was a travel agent and that I wouldn’t have to worry about planning anything. Finally our little get-away came around, and all I knew was that we were going to a beach somewhere. When we arrived I couldn’t believe my eyes! The room was absolutely gorgeous and incredibly romantic. That night we just hung out at the beach and didn’t do much. But, the next morning I got more than I ever bargained for. When I woke up, I noticed my boyfriend wasn’t next to me. So I got up and started to look around the room until I saw a path of rose petals leading out on the balcony. I followed the trail and when I looked out the balcony I saw the words “Will You Marry Me?” sketched out in the sand right outside, below me. Then my boyfriend emerged from the room and onto the balcony (dressed in tux and all!) with a diamond ring. He asked if I would make him the happiest man alive by growing old with him, and I said yes. It was the most romantic thing he had ever done for me. The rest of our vacation was fabulous as we celebrated our love and up-coming life together.

Valentine Proposal
On Valentine’s Day 2004, my boyfriend and I had a low key dinner and watched a movie together. We’d been together for 5 years and were completely broke, so we didn’t have any big plans for Valentine’s Day. I gave him his gift and he handed me a little stuffed lion (I love lions) and I thought we were done. At about 11:00pm he asked me if I wanted the rest of my gift. I was a little confused, especially when he said, “It was too big to fit in the house so you have to go into the backyard.” I started walking out through our pitch black kitchen and was peeking through the window over our kitchen sink only to see “Will You Marry Me?” lit up in red and white Christmas lights on our back fence. I stopped dead in my tracked and when I turned around, Chris was on one knee and was holding up my dream engagement ring. I was speechless as he made a little speech and slipped the ring on my finger. I was shaking and crying when I finally realized what had happened…I said yes of course!!

Velvet Rose Ring Box
I took my love out to dinner on Valentine’s Day at our favorite restaurant. Not wanting to spoil the surprise I had set up, I had secretly slipped away during the day and left 6 real red roses and 6 fake ‘Velvet Rose Ring Box’ roses at the restaurant, marking the ‘special’ one so the waiter would know which one he should get last. I had the waiter leave a vase on the table and alternate bringing out real red roses and the fake red ones one at a time. Each of the fake roses had a small poem folded up inside for him to read. By the time we reached dessert, he had 6 real red roses and 5 fake ones. We shared some strawberries in port wine and just as we finished feeding one another the final rose came out. Inside I had put a silver claddagh promise ring for him, to match the promise ring he had given me on our 1 yr anniversary. He loved it and still wears it every day! You can get the ‘Velvet Rose Ring Boxes’ in sets of 12 from Oriental Trading Co.–they don’t cost much and are very creative.

Walking On Clouds
My fiancé and I love spending time at the beach. On one beautiful spring day he picked me up and brought me to the beach for a picnic lunch. While we were sitting there enjoying each other’s company a plane flew over head. I looked up because it sounded like it was right over head. Not only was it circling around us… it was towing a banner which read “Will You Marry Me?” I turned to him and he was holding out the ring!

Week-Long Proposal
My boyfriend and I had been dating for a of couple months. We had a miscarriage and were both very upset. However, he was handling it better than I was. One Monday night, he told me that on Friday he had something to ask me. I stayed wondering all week. He would drop hints like, “You’ll really like this,” and “I know something you don’t know.” This really bugged me. Friday came around and he stayed on me all day about it. Around 8:00 p.m., he asked me if I was ready. I told him I was and he told me to wait just a minute. I laid down on the bed waiting until he came in with his jacket on. This didn’t make much sense, because it was July. I sat Indian style on the edge of the bed and he told me to close my eyes. I did. He said, “Ok, check this out.” I opened my eyes and he was on one knee with the ring in the box in his hand. I started crying and said yes. We are planning to be married on April 24, 2004. This will be exactly 1 year and 1 month after we started dating.

What’s Your Perfect Date?
About 1 year into our relationship, my boyfriend asked me what my idea of a perfect date was. I wanted to know his as well, so we both wrote ours down on index cards. A year and a half later, he blindfolded me and drove me somewhere far away. He then helped me out of the car and took me into a room with romantic music playing. When he took off the blindfold, I saw the most beautiful thing. He had taken me on my idea of my ‘perfect date.’ It was in a hotel overlooking the beach. He rented out the ballroom, and had one single round table near the HUGE picture window overlooking the ocean. The waves were crashing against the rocks and the sun was setting. There were candles around the room, and rose petals all over. On the table were my two favorite roses, an Equadorian Pailine rose, and a red rose. We had a candle light dinner with champagne. We then danced to our song, and after that he got down on one knee and proposed!

When I Least Expected It!
My fiancee’ and I had been dating 4 years…so I knew a proposal was coming sometime in the near future. He wanted it to be a complete surprise (I thought it would be impossible) and it WAS! My dad had asked if he could come down to visit. So, I made arrangements to take him out to dinner and then to a jazz club. I made reservations for the 4 of us at both locations. My boyfriend came to pick all of us up and drove us to the restaurant. When we walked in, we were led back to a private room, where 20 of our closest friends and family were already seated at the table waiting for us (he had called and changed the reservations I had made). There were 1 dozen red roses on my place setting and “Try Me” by James Brown played in the background. He got on his knee in front of everyone and asked me to marry him. Needless to say, our wedding is 4 months away! It was the PERFECT way to keep the proposal a secret from a very perceptive and nosy girlfriend!

When We First Met Proposal
I met my boyfriend at a hotel party that my friend held. Without me knowing, my boyfriend invited our closest friends back to that same hotel. We were just having fun talking and having a few drinks. Then, he told me to come over by him. He said “This was where I first laid eyes on you and ever since that day, I haven’t taken my eyes off you. I love you so much.” Then, he got down on one knee, pulled the ring from his pocket and asked, “Will you marry me?” Of course I said yes! And it was extra special because my best friends were there too!

Where It All Began Proposal
I met this beautiful girl at a local karaoke bar about a year and a half ago. We were just friends, but I felt something for this girl. One night I was sitting on one of the ground speakers in the bar and I turned to her after some conversation and said, “I have the biggest crush on you.” I received the biggest smile and hug ever. I then sang her the song Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx. Now a year later we are doing well and living together. One night I asked her if she would go out to that bar, which has now changed with a new owner, to grab a bite to eat and have a drink. She said yes. Without her prior knowing, I invited all of her family and friends including mine to go. I also called the bar before hand and asked them if they could get a DJ for that night. They did. So we were eating and drinking and she had no clue what was in store. All of the sudden the DJ shows up and some of our friends, but she still has no clue. Sooner or later everyone arrives and she finally asks, “Why is everyone here?” I then got on the microphone, told everyone to sit and thank them for coming. I read her a poem as her mom came in with two dozen roses and handed them to her. I then grabbed her by the hand and took her to the same exact spot that I told her I had a crush on her over a year ago and asked, “Will you marry me?” She was so frozen, but after a second yelled out “YES!” in tears. I then sat her down and had the DJ put on the same song (instrumental) and I sang it to her again. We all then partied like animals and had a wonderful night. We are getting married this summer.
