Birthday Party Surprise
My husband and I had only been dating a couple months when he proposed. We were having a birthday party for his son (from a previous marriage). We had a picnic and invited both of our families. His son began opening his birthday gifts and the last one was from his dad and me. His son began opening the gift and to my astonishment it was not the gift we bought for him. His son brought me a box and said, “I think this is for you, my dad wants to know if you will marry him.” My husband then came over to me, and asked if I would be his wife. Of course I said yes! I opened the box and inside was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. It was perfect, the way he proposed included his son (14 yrs. old) and our families, and it let me know that his son was okay with us getting married. We were married in December 2001.

Birthday Proposal
My boyfriend proposed on my birthday. I had no idea it was coming. We went to a very nice restaurant for my birthday. We left to go back home. As he opened the door to our apartment, the entire house was lit with candles; it was so bright. There were rose petals everywhere you can imagine. He led me into the bedroom telling me there was something he needed to tell me. Then he got on one knee and said, “I want you to be my best friend and my wife for the rest of my life.” By that time I was crying so hard. I couldn’t believe it. What a birthday!

Bowling: A Striking Proposal
My now step-dad proposed to my mom a few years ago in one of the most romantic ways ever. They were bowling (both of them enjoy that) and drinking champagne. My step-dad had arranged for “Will you marry me Valerie?” to pop up on the screen that usually posts the scores. He slipped the ring in her champagne while she was bowling, and when she went to get a drink, she got a little surprise. Another way to do this would be to put the ring in your mouth then kiss your soon-to-be fiancée.

Break-Up Proposal
My boyfriend and I were having some problems, mostly to do with his ex-girlfriend. He works quite a bit and he was always breaking dinner dates. We had made a date one night to go for dinner at an expensive restaurant, he called me from work to explain that a client would be late and his last meeting would run a little longer then expected. He told me to go to the restaurant and wait for him. I got all dressed up and went there, I was brought to my table where there was a note waiting for me. It said: “Kristin, I’m sorry that things have not been going well; there is nothing more that I can do to make you trust me. I understand this is how you feel and I think it would be better for both of us if we ended our relationship. Forever – Michael.” I was so upset, I went home and was going to throw all of his clothes on the front lawn, when I got there most of his clothes were already gone. There was another note on the dresser: “Kristin, I know I’ve hurt you and I’m sorry for that, take a week and go to Hawaii … I’m sorry. – Michael.” There was a plane ticket in an envelope as well as reservation instructions for me. I thought he was crazy but decided to go, he broke my heart, might as well break his wallet! I got there, went to the hotel and opened the door. There was another note: “I’m sorry to have done this to you, go have a drink in the bar downstairs.” I was freaked out, but I went downstairs. When I got there I saw flowers, balloons and half my family waiting for me. Michael was down on one knee; he told me how much he loved me and wanted to be with me forever. He asked me to be his wife. It was the craziest thing in the entire world, but I’ll never forget it.

Breathless Proposal!
Here’s a great idea for asking someone to be your girlfriend/boyfriend. Go to a theme park and go on the HIGHEST or BIGGEST rollercoaster. On the highest point, just as your about to go down, pop the question and your partner will be absolutely breathless with surprise–LITERALLY! ENJOY!

Build-a-Bear Proposal
Ok, well this hasn’t happened yet, but this is how I am planning on proposing to my girlfriend. I am going to go to a Build-a-Bear workshop and make a koala bear. (Her pet name for me is koala.) Then, I’ll dress it like I would usually dress, in jeans and a black t-shirt maybe. You can record your own words on a voice box, so I will put one in that says, “I love you Abby, will you marry me?” Then, I will plan a romantic dinner at her house one night. In the middle of the dinner, the doorbell will ring. (One of my friends will do this for me!) When she answers the door, no one will be there, but the teddy, a bouquet of flowers, and a note saying “squeeze me.” When she does, and hears the proposal, she’ll run back inside, only to find me on one knee with an engagement ring. Hopefully, she’ll say yes! Editor’s Note: You can purchase a Build-A-Bear online at their website also.

Caricature Proposal
I proposed on our lunch break. I had previously arranged to have a caricaturist there ahead of time, unbeknownst to her. We had a code worked out so he would know it was us. I walked over to him with my girlfriend and asked him some silly questions about what he was doing and he explained he was taking an art class. Then he said, just like we had scripted, “You know, I am taking an art class right now, and I have to draw a couple, and it would mean a lot to me if you would both sit for me, it’ll take no more than 10 minutes.” Well, I convinced my girlfriend to sit down with us, since it would be fun, right? So, we sat, and sure enough about ten minutes later the artist said, “Okay, I’m almost finished, but I don’t really know you too well (my fiancée) so I need you to fill in this little bubble I left blank over your head. Write either ‘yes’ or ‘no’.” Well, he handed the picture to her and I took the opportunity to get on my knee and take out the ring because the picture was of me on my knee proposing. Well, to my relief she wrote ‘Yes!’ in her bubble and we will be married in a little over a year!

Carousel Romance
The way my fiancé proposed to me couldn’t have been more appropriate. I love carnivals and amusement parks, so the summer after we had been together for 2 years, he took me to the amusement park that I practically grew up at. After a very fun–and unsuspecting–afternoon, he took me to the carousel. I always sit on the outer ring of horses, so I can grab for the brass ring (to go on the carousel again, for free), and he always sits next to me, which means he’s on an “up and down” horse. This time, he sat in front of me, and when I asked why, he said, “To try and get more rings than you!” Well, it was hilarious watching this rookie grab for rings, dropping some, almost falling off, and whatnot. At the end of the ride, he asked me how many rings I had. I told him, and asked him the same. He said, “Well, not as many as you, but let me show you which one I did get.” He walked up to me, opened his hand, and there was an engagement ring. He proposed to me in front of everyone there, and then the carousel operator let us have a ride all to ourselves!

Champagne Propsal
I’ve been lucky enough to meet the woman of my dreams and on the last weekend of this month (February), I plan to profess my undying love for her by asking for her hand in marriage. My plan is to take her away to a beautiful bed & breakfast in Jackson, NH. Before we leave for our weekend, I will have purchased a fantastic bottle of champagne in which I will etch the words “Sylvia, I love you with all my heart. Will you marry me? Love David.” I’ll also call the manager of the Wentworth and let him/her in on my little plan. Once we check in, I’ll have Sylvia relax in the suite while I continue to bring the bags in. At that point, I’ll take the etched bottle of champagne to the manager for safe keeping. Whereas our stay includes a five course candlelight dinner, I’ll suggest we order a bottle of champagne. That will be the cue for the Wine Stuart to bring over the etched bottle and present it to Sylvia for her approval. During the commotion of her trying to figure out what’s going on, I will have slid out of my chair (hopefully unnoticed) to be by her side on one knee presenting her with the ring. With any luck, she’ll say yes!

Check YES or NO
I never received a check “yes or no” letter when I was in grade school. When my boyfriend and I first started dating, he found that out and sent me one. It read, “I really like you and I think you like me too. Will you be my girlfriend? Check yes or no.” Three years later, on our anniversary, he handed me an envelope. When I opened it, there was a note inside. It read, “I love you with all my heart, and I think you love me too. Will you marry me? Check yes or no.” When I looked up from the letter, there he was on one knee holding a ring. Needless to say, I checked “yes” both times.

China Proposal
A friend of mine is getting married this June, and this is how she was proposed to: Her boyfriend and her were on a mission’s trip in China with a group. The whole group of people knew about the proposal, except my for her. Her boyfriend tied a card to a stuffed animal and left it in the lobby of where they were staying. Then he asked her to meet him in the lobby, but he hid. She came down, saw the stuffed animal and the card saying how much he loved her. Then he appeared got down on one knee and with ring in hand, and proposed. Of course my friend said yes and from above, tons of roses fell from above… the mission’s trip team was dropping them from the balcony above.

Christmas Eve Proposal
I met my girlfriend about 6 weeks before I left for boot camp, and was not really sure how it would all work out. When I got to boot camp I wrote her letters every day, and she did the same for me. I got to see her at graduation, and then again at Thanksgiving. I planned to ask her to marry me when I went home for Christmas leave. I picked her up Christmas eve, and took her to a place called Old Town, which was decorated beautifully, with trees, lights, luminaries, and Christmas caroling. We did the caroling for a while, and then decided to go for a walk. we went to look at the tree and it was nice to just hold each other while looking up at the tree. It was really cold and she had my gloves on so I told her to let me have just one of them (the left one is the one I picked) so when she put her hand in her pocket I put my hand in it also, and took her hand out. she looked up at me and I told her how much I loved her. she started to look down as I put the ring on her finger. After I got it on she asked, “What’s this?” With the biggest smile I whispered, “What do you think it is?” she started crying like crazy. I asked her if she was going to make me get down on one knee to get an answer? She said yes and with tears in her eyes I took the ring off and at the top of my lungs asked for everyone’s attention. Her eyes lit up. She got all embarrassed and in front of everyone there, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said Yes, and it was perfect!

Christmas Tree Hunt Proposal
When my husband proposed he did it in such a cute and original way that I will never forget it. It was a few days before Christmas, he brought me over to his house. On his Christmas tree he had these ornaments that had boxes (gifts) that actually opened. Well in his family there is a tradition that someone has to find the pickle ornament on the tree. So he had me find the pickle which had a clue on it. That clue led me to one of the ornaments which had another clue in it. After about four clues the last clue led me to this ornament of Santa Claus, when I opened the gift box, there was an engagement ring. Then he took the ring out of the box got down on one knee and proposed to me. It was so romantic. I will never forget that day as long as I live!

Christmas Tree Proposal
This has yet to be done, but here’s the plan: On Christmas Day, I am going to have five presents under my girlfriend’s tree for her. She will of course believe that I am at my father’s celebrating Christmas but I will be hiding in the kitchen. The first present will be a ticket stub to our first movie which just happened to be our first date and where our first kiss was. The second will be a picture of her 5-month-old niece and me. That one will be representing the time when we casually began talking about kids and a life together. The next will be a picture of the two of us at my sister’s wedding a few months later. We had an amazing time and couldn’t stop saying “I love you” to each other that day. The next one will be a Valentine’s Day stuffed toy gorilla reminding her of the amazing Valentine’s Day the two of us had a few months after my sister’s wedding. The last present will have a note in it reading: “You have given me more joy than even I thought possible, and at the end of this string I hope to give back just a fraction of that joy to you…” There will be a string attached to the bottom of the box leading around the tree 3 or 4 times and up to the top. Around the back of the star at the top of the tree will be an engagement ring. Just before she gets to the ring, I am going to come out from the kitchen and make my speech and get down on one knee and ask her to marry me.
