Snow Play

📖 6 mins read

For warm weather devotees, snow and romance don’t seem to mesh, but we’ve got news for you. Winter’s snowflakes create the perfect stage for a picturesque tryst.

Pack a bag full of snow fun essentials and head to a snowy escape near you. Choose a secluded mountaintop away from the business of the city, venture to a high-traffic ski resort, or find the locals’ favorite sledding hill and spend the day there.

If you’ve got the time for an overnight escapade, do consider it. Imagine cozying up for a romantic night next to a crackling fire in a mountain lodge, surrounded by the serenity of a silencing blanket of snow. After your day of hitting the slopes, retreat back to your mountain lodge for good food, microbrews, or a piping hot cup of cocoa.

What to do:

  • Ski, snowboard, cross-country ski, ride snow-mobiles, or hike in snow shoes.
  • Go ice-skating.
  • Take a walk and make snow angels together.
  • Build a fire and cuddle up with a blanket and cocoa.
  • Slow dance.
  • Build a snowman.
  • Have a friendly (or not-so-friendly if you are real competitive) snowball fight.
  • Have a paintball battle.
  • Go hunting.

Your snow day essentials:

A camera (or your iphone or android.. yes people still buy cameras!) – Be sure to bring a camera to capture silly moments, take pictures of yourselves kissing, or do a mini-photo shoot with beautiful snow-covered mountains as the backdrop.

Cocoa – Bring cocoa in a good thermos so that it’s piping hot when you want it.

Snowman stuff – A carrot for the nose, raisins for the mouth and eyes, Oreos for the buttons, a hat and scarf will do just fine for your snowy friend.

The right gear (snow boots, pants, jackets, layers of clothing, etc), scarves, extra gloves, hats and blankets are a must. Getting too cold is a quick way to ruin the romance.

A Chance to Dance
My husband and I were having dinner at a local dinner with some friends one evening and after dinner he went to warm up the car and bring it around front. A favorite song of ours started playing on the radio when he pulled up. He rolled down the windows, turned up the volume, and led me to the front of the car in the headlights. We danced in the parking lot with the snow falling and people watching. However, I felt that we were the only two people in the whole world. We’ve been married eight years now, and we never miss the chance to dance. That includes dancing in parking lots when the mood strikes us.

Snow Dance
I was driving around town with an old boyfriend. It was cold and there was snow on the ground. It started to snow really heavily and it got hard to see. We stopped on Main street in front of everyone, got out of the truck, turned up the music on my phone and slow danced in the snow in the middle of the street. Everyone stopped and watched us, old and young. It was a beautiful moment!

One Snowy Evening
My boyfriend took me to a secluded place one night for our anniversary. It was surrounded on three sides by rock walls and the other by trees. It had snowed all day so there was a fresh layer of snow. He carried me out into the snow, where we danced to our song playing from the truck. When the song ended he wrote “I love you” in the snow. It was so romantic!!

Starlit Ice Skating
My boyfriend and I had been together a short time and had already begun to realize the significance of our relationship. One winter night my guy surprised me. He called me and said he would come pick me up so we could go ice skating (he lived on the lake). I knew it was late but I wanted to go. I got my ice skates and went with him to his house. We had to walk down to the waterfront and it was completely dark except for the stars and the camp light he was holding. When we got to the dock, we put on our skates and he told me to wait a second while he put the light out on the ice so we could see. He skated out and put down the light and I saw for the first time the huge spot on the lake he had cleared for me to skate. He told me afterward that it had taken him two days to clear off all the snow and prepare the ice for my own personal rink.

A Day In The Snow
Wake up in the morning, and get dressed to go snowboarding together. There is nothing more fun than to drive somewhere in the mountains and snowboard all day. Make some snow angels, build a snowman, or have a snowball fight. And then at the end of the day, take a hot bath together and drink some hot chocolate!

Frosty’s Proposal
After a good snow, go out and build a snowman together. Start piecing together the snowman. Keep her occupied with other things while you put on the face. Then slide the ring on the end of the snowman’s nose (carrot). Once you have the face arranged, ask her to come over and look at it. She will see the ring. Then slide it off the carrot and slide it on to her finger while bending down on one knee!!

Picnic In Snow
My boyfriend was leaving to go to school across the country on Sunday, so we decided to make our last Saturday together special. Unfortunately, Friday night we were hit with a massive New England snowstorm! I was bummed that we couldn’t do anything more than watch movies. My boyfriend had planned a picnic for the day, so we decided to have it anyways, in the back of his SUV. it was perfect, we turned on the heat and music on my iphone, and just watched the snowfall. It was one of the most romantic things I’ve ever done.
