Date Night: Baking for Two

This week's date night will have you cooking up more that just great goodies! You'll share quality time together while expanding your culinary skills. No matter what kind of culinary skills you have, the memories you create will make you more than glad you tried this date night.

To make this date night go smoothly, you'll need to determine whether you want to include picking out he recipe and shopping for any necessary ingredients or supplies as part of the experience. If not, you'll need to have done this ahead of time. If do decide to include the recipe selection and shopping, consider making it a two-part date. Spend the night before getting everything ready so the next night can be dedicated to baking.

Select recipes that aren't complicated and that you will both enjoy baking. You want your time together to be spent enjoying the moment, not stressing about every little step involved. For fun, each person should pick out one recipe to try. After you're done, you can compare who picked the best recipe.

Also, when selecting your recipes, make sure to keep in mind what cookware you have or will need to purchase. For example, if you make bread or cupcakes, you'll need a bread or muffin pan. You might want to check and see what baking tools you have or need as well.

Allow plenty of time for preparing the recipe. If you're new at baking, it might take a bit longer to finish than the recipe indicates.

Don't get upset if a recipe doesn't turn out the way you expected. You're cooking up memories, not training to be a chef.

The fun part about baking together is spending time being creative. If you're making cookies, get some extra fun stuff and decorate a few of them afterward. You can do this with cupcakes, cakes, and brownies as well.

Keep the mood light and have music you both enjoy playing in the background.

Don't forget that bakers get hungry too! Keep a few snacks nearby to munch on and have your partner's favorite beverages available as well.

If you're making cookies, make fun shapes out of them such as hearts or the letters of your name. You might want to pick up a few cookie cutters for this.

While you're waiting for your goodies to bake, play a card or board game to pass the time and allow you to continue your conversations.
