Dating in 2023 Does Love happen or is it about hookups? Today’s podcast for S-Spot with Salty Vixen is something that I have been talking about for a long time, the fact the dating apps are all the same, 95% of the people on there are on the app for getting laid i.e. hookup or scammers.
You can say that people are honest on apps, nope. In the past week I spoke to a man who said he was a famous polo player (since polo is my favorite sport I am an expert)- I knew he was lying about it and when he freely gave me his number, I did a deep dive research and found out the dude had a LONG list of a criminal rap sheet including grand larceny.
Another guy pretended to be a famous chef, again freely giving me his number, did a research and the guy lived In a crime area in my state. Last year, I learned how crazy the hookup culture is and you think the dating apps profiles would be honest and up front and while for some they are, the newest ‘trend’ is for men to say “they are looking for are looking for a relationship” when they want a hookup. They know that majority of women are looking for stability, relationship that will eventually go into marriage and so they make a ‘too good to be true’ profile to only take you out for a nice meal and then say that they want an oral treat after paying for a meal (yes this has happened to me and many others!)
The dating world has turned a lot of us off- thinking, better to be alone than date these creeps. But then how do you meet people? Yes, men have the same issue with women. A man, who I was chatting with told me on a date, the woman said she can hear cat’s thoughts. Like the cat speaks human words. Another man told me that he went on a nice date to find that the woman just wanted to have sex and texted him the following morning “I didn’t want a relationship, just a hookup” He said he felt used but it was nice to get the equipment working as it had been a long time.
So again, for both genders, many are not upfront about what they want. They take advantage of the fact we, the people are lonely. That also got me thinking, on social media, when you think about it, approximately 90% people are single- either never been married or divorced. Yes, that is a high number and when you think about it, you will realize I am right. What about the rest of the 10%? Easy. They are married but from that 10%, only 2% are happily married. The rest are unhappily married or on the brink of divorced. There have been those who write on the dating profiles they are in an open marriage- and the spouse has zero idea that this is happening!
For those who are single, and see on Facebook, the married people, the single people have a ‘secret’ depression, thinking when will we find that person? What is wrong with us? Why can’t we be married? Then you think about going back to high school reunion, thinking the bullies who made fun of you growing up, will mock the fact that person is still single and they are married (yes this has crossed my mind!) - that is why I have Salty Vixen Stories & More (saltyvixenstories.com) - it helps me write about love & romance as well as Loverotica because there are lonely people out there, just like myself. We will find that person, yes it takes time and that person who doesn’t like hookup culture, is out there. Just remember hope brings love and loves brings hope (this is a Salty Vixen saying).
My final thought is : BE HONEST AND DO NOT LIE when it comes to online dating profiles. If you want a relationship then be truthful. If you want a hookup and lie you want a relationship, then you are dishonest not only to yourself but to your date who was looking for true love.
And ALWAYS meet in a public place for lunch on a first date. NEVER have the person pick you up from your house- that isa No-No! You don’t know if they are a rapist or a serial killer. And before meeting them, do a research, to make sure they are not criminals- dating is easy but can be frustrating and at at the same time you have to protect yourself!
